The adoption process can be a slow one. ACR&S is an all-volunteer organization. There are only three adoption coordinators responsible for transport and scheduling small animal adoptions all over North and South Carolina. All of us who volunteer for ACR&S have full time jobs and families to care for, in addition to doing our rescue and education work. Often, we can only schedule one adoption per week, so during the busiest times of the year, it may take two months between having your application approved and meeting your new pets.

If this schedule does not meet your timeline or expectations, we completely understand! Please instead visit one of our sister rescues, or your local county animal shelter.

Pet Care Information

Please note that for guinea pigs we require the use of a solid-floor cage such as a Cube & Coroplast Cage. Minimum size for one or two pigs must be 7.5 square feet (28"x42"). For rabbits we require the use of pens (dog exercise pens) or solid floor NIC/Cube&Coroplast type cages, minimum size 8 to 16 square feet depending on rabbit size. Petstore-bought cages are generally not acceptable for either species. ACR&S sells pig and rabbit cages very inexpensively ($40 for the basic cage or pen) if you need to purchase one.
